Christopher Hockey is the transfer services coordinator at SUNY Oswego. He earned a bachelor’s in political science from SUNY Oswego and a Master of Science in higher education from Syracuse University.
During his time at SUNY Oswego, Hockey, 29, created a mentoring program for incoming transfer students to help them with their transition to SUNY Oswego. The program, “Mentors Offering Support to Transfers,” or MOST, consists of recruiting returning transfer students to mentor a new transfer student. Hockey also serves on the Leadership Council for the Graduates of the Last Decade or GOLD Program of the Oswego Alumni Association.
“Its mission is to enhance communication amongst and donations from Oswego graduates from the past ten years,” he said. He also serves as a member of the Alumni Sharing Knowledge program. “I make myself available to talk to and mentor any current Oswego students or alumni interested in the field of higher education,” Hockey said.
Hockey is driven by the desire to create long-lasting change. “I seek to create programs and systems that will last for years after I have moved to the next step,” he said. “My goal in any job that I have, especially in my work as a higher education admin- istrator, is to make a significant impact on the students.” (AC)
