Why did you take on the task of directing the women's studies program? "I agreed to direct the women's studies program because growing up in New York City as the daughter of working class Irish immigrants, I benefitted from feminist teachers who showed me possibilities I had not imagined for myself. I enjoy teaching because I find I can "pay it forward" directing women who likewise struggle to see what's possible for themselves. I direct students to scholarship and internship opportunities, helping them select classes, develop resumes, write research projects, and plan for graduate school. Foremost, I advise students as they find a political voice and work across communities to make progressive changes."
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
"Anywhere: writing, teaching, learning and leading."
